Why doesn't ChatGPT name my business?
When a customer asks an AI for a tradie, the answer names two or three businesses. Here is why yours may not be one of them.
A customer in your suburb now asks ChatGPT, Google's AI, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity for a tradie the same way they used to type it into Google. The answer is not a page of links. It is a shortlist: two or three names, spoken as if the engine already did the choosing.
If your business is not one of those names, you are not on page two. You are not in the conversation. The customer never hears you existed. That is the default for most Australian trade businesses today, including good ones with real work behind them.
The engines are not searching a secret directory of licensed tradies. They pull from what they can already see: your Google Business Profile, reviews in your own words from real customers, a website that states the work you do and the suburbs you cover, and other pages that name you in the same breath as that work. Weak or missing signals do not get a polite maybe. They get silence.
Wombid does not submit or verify directory listings, and we do not promise a named recommendation. What we can do is measure the thing that matters. The free AI Visibility Audit asks the five engines the questions a real customer would ask for your trade and suburb, scores how often you are named, and shows who is named instead.
If you already know you are invisible, the paid plans keep running that check and ship the fixes. This page is the lasting answer to the question. The weekly email that sparked it stays in the Wombid Weekly archive.
